Our in-house essay consultant, Sara Nolan, has been working through Essay Intensive with students aged 10 and up on personal essay writing for over a decade and as an ELA educator and classicist since 2001. A mother and stepmother (to 4!), she understands that supporting our own children to perfect their writing can be emotionally complicated! She has worked in independent schools, with public and charter school students at top NYC nonprofits, and with applicants from all over the world. Read Sara’s recent work in the NYTimes.
Her joy is helping all students find themselves and their voice through words on the page. It’s that magical. Read her full bio here.
Sara works with students on application essays for college, selective high schools, grad schools, contests, and….you name it, you’re covered.
Our approach: Applications could be a meaningful, exciting rite of passage for students, but the essays often cause them to panic and misunderstand the goal and Big Picture. Essay Intensive & Bee Tutored together help all students be comfortable in who they are, proud of their unique backgrounds, and realistic in their aims. All this in a personalized, pragmatic, and nurturing environment.
We’re here to help you write about yourself with focus, clarity and power, so admissions readers pay attention.
We’ll even teach you some very effective tools from meditation for on the spot relaxation.
What Sara will NOT do:
Write essays for a student—no matter what.
Tell the student what they *must* write.
Be mouthpiece for what parent thinks a student must or must not write.
Praise an essay that is not good or appropriate for its purpose.
