Public middle and high school admissions in NYC has traditionally been described as more complicated and stressful than applying to college! And now, with changes to the system affecting the number of spots available in sought after schools, it has been made even more confusing. We can help!
Our in house admissions consultant, Katie Miller, has been advocating for parents and children in public school education for the last 10 years, when her now 9th grader began kindergarten at P.S. 87 on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Katie is an expert on navigating the complex New York City public middle and high school admissions process. Read Katie’s full bio here.
Katie offers two kinds of admissions consulting:
*Individual session where Katie will:
– Map out the timeline for the admissions season, and advise on when and how to prepare for school-specific tests;
– Help you create a list of schools that would be appropriate for your child, based on a series of questions / priorities;
– Answer questions about the intricacies of the DOE admissions process, including how Round 1, Appeals and Waitlists work. She will also discuss certain pitfalls to avoid when going through the admissions process.
*Series of sessions where Katie can assist you in navigating the admissions process from start to finish.
This may include working with students on interview skills or admissions essays, where appropriate.
Families can decide what level of assistance is appropriate for them.
-Individual sessions: $250 / 1.5 hour session* (recommended for initial session)
-Individual sessions: $175 / 1 hour session
